Finally the artisans shower the pieces with artesanal liquid beeswax, which adds a second watertight protection and gives a beautiful shine. The colour of each piece (black, red and beige) is natural, coming from the oven process as well as the mixture with other stones from the Mixteca region.The natural clay is a very good thermal insulator. It does not get hot with boiling water, so it will protect your fingers when your drink is too hot.Care and infoEven though our pieces can resist high temperatures we recommend not to put them in direct contact with fire or for a long time in the oven.A soft and natural soap and a sponge is enough to clean them and preserve the beautiful shine for a very long time. We recommend using a gentle soap as aggressive chemicals can wear away the beeswax finish.You can be confident in using forks, spoons and table knives with these products. Be careful with sharp knives as they can scratch the pieces. The pieces will change colour over time, acquiring a unique patina of use. There’s no need to be afraid of scratches or stains as they are part of the story of the object. The pieces can present spots of different colours, these marks are the result of the contact in the oven with other pieces or fire flames in contact, creating a unique pattern as a memory of the fire.IMPORTANT - These are food safe but it should be noted that with use they will become permanently stained if any foods with oil or color are put on them which is part of the unique magic of the natural background of its production, this characteristic is what makes that world known restaurants use them in their menu as you can not get this effect with any other industrial type of production. Since reopening our centres, over 35,000 visitors of all ages have been able to enjoy some much needed Covid-secure outdoor learning and fun. Our online courses and resources have supported outdoor learning throughout last 18 months, but now it’s great to welcome real as well as virtual visitors.
My staff have said how good it is to hear children again, see them engage with nature first hand and enable them to make the most of their time with classmates and teachers in beautiful surroundings.
There is no substitute for the real thing, and many will have had enough of learning by being cooped up indoors, staring at a screen. Time spent in our stunning locations with our expert staff helps engage every learner as they connect with nature, teachers and peers.
Despite changes to course content, assessment and exams for 2022, schools are still being encouraged to offer outdoor learning and fieldwork opportunities. We all know the value of learning by first hand experiences that consolidate knowledge and fix it in the memory. Learners are still required to answer fieldwork questions in exams. We encourage you to come to our centres so that they can experience fieldwork first hand, learn by doing and develop knowledge and skills needed for work or further study.
There isn’t a lesson in the school day that can’t be enriched by connecting to nature, or a subject in the curriculum that can’t be enhanced by outdoor learning.
