I like Quail cats and this cutie is no exception. Beautifully painted, with a lovely black dot on one side of his face, hence his name "Spot" (I assume!) He is very small, but I think that adds to his attractive visage. He is in perfect condition as well, which is always a great plus when shopping online. The Prologue and Three Tales. Green Cloth cover. 221 pages.Edited by George H. Cowling M.A. Published Ginn and Company Ltd. London. Printed 1934What would English literature be without Chaucer#39;s Tales of Canterbury? Written in the 14th Century in old English and still taught today in our schools. What hym ther was a Plowman, was his brotherTht hadde ylad of doing ful many a fother,A trewe swinkere, and a good was he,Livynge in pees and parfit charitee.God loved he best, with all his hoole herte.Spellcheck is having a fine time whilst writing the above....I fell across this book along with many others, I had to buy some, I couldn#39;t buy them all. I opened up the cover and realized that they used to belong to my next door neighbour Elspeth. Elspeth was an elderly spinster, a dear and polite and proper spinster. She had been a lecturer at a University and had studied botany all her life. She knew every tree, every shrub, every flower. My birdseed germinated in my garden and I remember dragging a very large stem off an unknown plant round to her cottage, I knocked on her door and asked her quot;what am I growing here Elspeth?quot;. quot;I think that is something illegalquot;, she replied. Apparently a Marijuana species. Another time a friend sent me seeds some kind of South African Lily seeds which he bought on the internet. I cultured this seed and took it round again to Elspeth to be told I was growing knot-weed, which had to be desecrated and burnt. She never married, and as time went by she would tell me of her special friend quot;Carolquot;, her painting hung on the wall, her prize possession, I think her love for Carol was so deep and secret and also passionate. She kept most things close to her heart, but when she spoke of her friend you felt her loneliness, a sadness. She loved cake, and sweet things and my husband would spoil her with strawberries and Cornetto#39;s, me homemade cake and muffins, sometimes successful sometimes not but regardless her eyes would light up like beacons in the night quot;Oh! Thank you !....she would declare. She died recently, just an old lady of 92, in a green chair, her memory faded away in days gone past. Her beautiful little garden is overrun now waiting for new owners. She had no church service when she died, no neighbours were invited. Her ashes should have been scattered in her garden, but no one bothered. I am going to buy a Gingko Biloba Tree in memory of Elspeth should I sell her books and plant it at the bottom of my garden.Size: 6.5 x 4.5/8th inches wide Good clean vintage condition.Packed with care Wrapped in tissue and tied with ribbon Vintage Selections from Chaucer/Poetry/Book/1934

Since reopening our centres, over 35,000 visitors of all ages have been able to enjoy some much needed Covid-secure outdoor learning and fun. Our online courses and resources have supported outdoor learning throughout last 18 months, but now it’s great to welcome real as well as virtual visitors.
My staff have said how good it is to hear children again, see them engage with nature first hand and enable them to make the most of their time with classmates and teachers in beautiful surroundings.
There is no substitute for the real thing, and many will have had enough of learning by being cooped up indoors, staring at a screen. Time spent in our stunning locations with our expert staff helps engage every learner as they connect with nature, teachers and peers.
Despite changes to course content, assessment and exams for 2022, schools are still being encouraged to offer outdoor learning and fieldwork opportunities. We all know the value of learning by first hand experiences that consolidate knowledge and fix it in the memory. Learners are still required to answer fieldwork questions in exams. We encourage you to come to our centres so that they can experience fieldwork first hand, learn by doing and develop knowledge and skills needed for work or further study.
There isn’t a lesson in the school day that can’t be enriched by connecting to nature, or a subject in the curriculum that can’t be enhanced by outdoor learning.
We know that schools, customers and parents need reassurance about the measures that we have put in place to keep everyone safe. If you would like to know more about what to expect when you come for a visit, take a look at our page Covid-19 Keeping you safe. You will also find details of our Book with Confidence scheme.
You don’t have be part of a school group to enjoy what FSC has to offer whether it’s a simple holiday or a Family Adventure, our Stay with Us breaks offer clean, simple accommodation in our stunning locations. For nature and wildlife enthusiasts there are opportunities to learn about the identification of songbirds or solitary bees on our place based courses.
At the start of a new academic year, it’s good to welcome you, thousands of muddy boots, the excited chatter and the buzz of learning to our centres once again.
